What is trichology?
Trichology is the scientific study of diseases of the hair and scalp. It focuses on the assessment of hair growth, scalp physiology, and changes affecting hair and scalp health through structured consultation and non-invasive analytical techniques.
Trichology commonly involves the evaluation of conditions associated with hair loss and scalp disorders, such as androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, alopecia areata, dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and inflammatory or scarring scalp conditions.
Is trichology medical?
Trichology has its roots in medical and dermatological science. Trichologists work within defined professional boundaries and do not replace assessment or treatment by a medical doctor, while taking a holistic approach when providing trichological assessment, guidance and support.
Do I need a diagnosis before booking?
No. You do not need a diagnosis to book a consultation.
If you have already received a diagnosis, this can be helpful, but it is not required.
What happens during a consultation?
A consultation includes a detailed discussion of your concerns, an examination of the hair and scalp, and non-invasive scalp analysis. We also review relevant health information, lifestyle factors, and current hair and scalp practices. Click here for more info.
Can you help if I already have a diagnosed condition?
Yes. If you have already been diagnosed and are familiar with your condition, we can offer trichological guidance and supportive care alongside your existing medical management.
Will you review my blood test results?
If you have recent blood test results, these can be reviewed in the context of hair and scalp health as part of the trichological assessment.
Do you work with all hair types?
Yes. We work with all hair types, textures, ethnicities, and genders.
Is trichoscopy invasive or painful?
No. Trichoscopy is a non-invasive, painless examination of the scalp and hair using magnification.
How long does the process take?
The initial process typically involves a free 15-minute pre-consultation, followed by a 30-45min trichoscopy appointment. Approximately one week later, a full trichology consultation is scheduled, lasting 30 minutes. If further consultations are required, these are typically 30 minutes in duration.
Will I need follow-up appointments?
Some clients benefit from follow-up consultations to review progress and refine guidance, while others may only require a single consultation.
Do you offer online consultations?
No. Online consultations are not suitable for the initial assessment, as trichoscopy examinations require an in-clinic appointment. However, the full trichology consultation may be conducted online in certain cases if you are unable to attend the clinic in person.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book by using the contact form, or by getting in touch via phone or email. We will respond within 48 hours to arrange next steps.
Is this right for me?
If you are experiencing changes in your hair or scalp, such as hair loss, an itchy or sore scalp, or dandruff, and are seeking a structured, evidence-informed assessment and guidance tailored to your concerns, a trichology consultation may be suitable. A free pre-consultation call helps determine whether this service is appropriate for you.
